Keeping Fit

Here we are half way through January and I have already failed at my diet but I am still going to crossfit twice a week and my walking speed up the hill outside my house was commented on the other day so something is working.  But the days when I was a slim size 12 have long since gone and I see no sign of them ever returning.

So far I have tried weight watchers, slimming world, keto, and fasting.  All diets seem to do is give you weeks of misery and after losing a few pounds, you look at a doughnut and instantly put it all back on again, I seem to inhale calories.
I am very fortunate to have a husband who loves cooking, we always cook from scratch and eat very healthily but our downfall is our huge dinner plates.  We have tried to use smaller plates but the thing is, we used to cook for five people plus when the kids were at home and now they are gone it is hard to keep the portions small, so although we sometimes use small plates there is often second helpings  waiting in the pan.  Willpower? Sorry there is non.

Yes summer is looming fast and something has to be done to get a ‘beach ready’ body and I don’t just mean time for the spring leg shave.

What do you think about Monjaro the wonder weight-loss drug?  For me the jury is still out.  I am not rushing to take anything like that as I believe I should  be strong and just regulate my food intake and use up the extra calories where I can.  Maybe a health farm would work but I reckon I could still easily smuggle in pizzas if need be, which would defy the purpose of being there and so be a waste of money.  Anyway I don’t think I qualify yet for medical intervention just yet.  On a plus note I did bring the old erg rowing machine up from the garage last week and set it up in the conservatory where it has sat ever since unused looking at me accusingly but I promise I will get on it soon.  Coming from a rowing family I feel I ought to do it justice and keep up the Mason tradition of rowing.

As mentioned previously I have crossfit sessions on  Mondays and Thursdays.  To the uninitiated it is an hour of varied circuit type exercises chosen by our lovely trainer Jo.  Our crossfit group is called legends because we are all of a certain age and of course I hate it with a passion but feel very smug after I have been.  Of course I add everything to ‘strava’ the fitness app, for some reason if I forget it feels like it doesn’t count.  I even add the walk up to crossfit and back which is nearly a mile each way.
Martin, my encyclopaedia on legs husband,  tells me that as we age it is important to keep our muscles and joints healthy.  ‘Motion is the lotion’ is the mantra so as we have our Lake District holiday coming up soon, I better get those old  muscles  trained up.

Wish me luck.

  1. Good reading, I promise I won't temp you anymore with maltesers, well at least until your bday or next Christmas. I feel much the same and relate to your journey! It's really hard to stay with one diet but let's all support it each other and we will get there.
